About

CASA of the Lincoln Trail recruits and trains volunteers so that every child who has experienced abuse, neglect, or dependency can be safe, have a permanent home, and the opportunity to thrive.

We are part of a national mission: In 1977, Seattle Superior Court Judge David Soukup recognized the need for more information before making life-changing decisions for children in abuse and neglect cases. His solution was simple but powerful: appoint trained community volunteers to advocate for the best interests of children in court. Fifty volunteers answered his first call launching what would become the CASA Movement.

Locally, our story began in 1984 under the leadership of Judge Tom Dawson, when a group of concerned citizens came together to address the growing crisis of child abuse and neglect in Nelson County. In 1985, the organization was formally incorporated as NELCASA.  Today, we are proud to serve as CASA of the Lincoln Trail, advocating for children across Nelson, Washington, and Marion Counties.

We believe that every child deserves a safe and nurturing environment, a place to call home, and the opportunity to thrive.

Our Mission

Our Mission

Our mission is to support and promote court-appointed volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children, so they can thrive in safe, permanent homes. We recruit, train, and empower community volunteers to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates—trusted adults who speak up for children in the courtroom and beyond.

Our Vision

The child welfare system is complex and often overwhelming. Children who have already experienced trauma must navigate a maze of professionals and institutions; law enforcement, child protective services, social workers, attorneys, judges, therapists, educators, and foster families.

CASA volunteers help guide children through this system, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are prioritized.

Our ultimate goal is simple: to help every child find a safe, permanent, and loving home.
